Executive Summary
Scrap Tires: Environmental Impact Found along the side of the road, in yards and legal and illegal dumpsites, scrap automobile tires are more than an eyesore -- they are a health hazard. There are an estimated 800 million tires scrapped around the world every year, 280 million in the United States alone. Scrap automobile tires represent a horrible waste of valuable resources. Their disposal is complicated, costly and environmentally hazardous. More than 3 billion scrap tires have been identified in legal and illegal scrap tire piles in this country, according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has identified more than 24 million scrap tires in legal and illegal tire dumps within the state. Within Canada Millions of Tires are Discarded each year. What if... instead of discarding the tire, we could create a new product from it?
DuraBoard TM Material: The Recycling Process
TCT's patented technology creates a new and unique material by recycling the raw materials which went into making the tire, while retaining the tire's engineered strength. Using a clean and non-combustion process, TCT manufactures an extremely durable, completely non-toxic material called DuraBoard TM .
Steps to Recycle (1) Scrap Tire Intake: TCT recycles automotive ,steel-belted radial tires (2) Both sidewall's are removed from the tire, and then it is transverse cut leaving a 7.5" x 72" linear plank (3) Utilizing a proprietary technique involving heat and pressure , the linear tire treads are flattenened (4) TCT's patented grinding process removes the raised tread from the linear plank leaving the steel tread belt encased in a uniform thickness of rubber. (5) The tread belt is flattened, utilizing a special technique involving heat and pressure. (6) This tread belt is then laminated together with other uniformly sized planks using a special gum rubber. (7) The laminated product is then subjected to heat and pressure. (8) The result is DuraBoard™ recycled ,steel-reinforced rubber. DuraBoard products are ideal for demanding applications.
